Simple Ideas for Easy Scrapbooking Pages

Look at any of the popular scrapbooking magazines on the shelves these days, and you’ll see page after page of elaborate layouts. Many top scrapbooking publications have gone in the direction of scrapbooking as art, and feature layouts that are more works of art than preserving memories for future generations. But for most scrapbookers, they are looking for easy ways to create pages that are both attractive and practical. For those scrapbookers, there are some simple ideas for quick scrapbooking pages.

Simple Color Schemes

One idea for quickly scrapbooking multiple pages is to pick a color scheme for your album and stick with it throughout. This works best for theme albums, where every layout in your album is from a single event or trip. By picking two or three colors that will work well with all the pictures, along with one or two patterned papers to use as accents, you will have all of your paper at your fingertips. It’s much easier to coordinate, and you eliminate the step of picking paper (which takes me longer than the layout itself!) for each page you do. It is also a nice design touch, and looks phenomenal when your album is assembled. Another color idea for scrapbooking quick pages is to use paper from a coordinating line. Many manufacturers make paper packs or stacks that come with 4 or 5 patterned papers and several solid papers that all coordinate. There’s no need to figure out which papers work well together – the work is done for you.

Scrapbook 4 x 6 Prints

Another simple idea for easy scrapbooking pages is to scrapbook 4 x 6 prints, rather than cropping each individual picture. With digital photography, the quality of most people’s pictures has gone up, since you can crop and edit your pictures before you print them. This means that you can put your pictures directly on your pages, rather than having to crop each one. There are several great idea books currently on the market with just layouts featuring 4 x 6 prints. Add a few simple embellishments and your page is done with very little effort.

Take a Little Help

One of my favorite ideas for scrapbooking pages is the current trend of “scraplifting.” Scraplifting is when you take an existing layout (from a magazine or online gallery) and copy the layout on your own page. This can range from just copying the layout of the pictures to recreating the exact layout yourself with your own pictures and supplies. Scraplifting is a popular trend right now, and is considered completely acceptable; most scrapbookers just appreciate a note in their online gallery or blog when you’ve scraplifted them to say thanks!
